So what's been going on recently?
07.08.09Last Saturday we had heat 1 of the Battle of the Bands, info in Mr Riot's Blog. Tomorrow, is heat 2. We're currently 1 band short for this heat, so if you're in a band, local to Surrey, and want a last minute gig tomorrow, let us know! The current up-to-date line-up is on the BOTB page, so go and check that out. Congrats to Streetfight Silence for winning heat 1, they're now through to the final on August 29th. Don't forget, EVERY Saturday night in August, Camberley Theatre, 7:15pm, £6!

Hello internet world! The site has been very much neglected in recent months, due to the lack of time to update. We've been super busy with lots of things, most importantly, the Battle of the Bands we're running at Camberley Theatre, starting THIS Saturday (August 1st)!! More info on that can be found on the BOTB page. We're very much looking forward to it, and hoping that you will all come out and show your support for the local musicians, just as you did 2 years ago when we held out first gig.
15.05.09
Right, basically: prep BOTB is going well so far, got lots of bands lined up to play, just waiting on final confirmation from one or two. We'll be getting some flyers printed at some point over the next couple of weeks, so if you fancy helping us out loads, spam everyone and everywhere you know with flyers! We'll love you forever if you do. Not much else going on right now to be honest, it's taking up most of our time. Off to a gig at the Point in Fleet on the 30th of May, North For The Winter, The Clarity, A Downfall To Last, The Last Word and Flyright. Looking to be a good 'un. Flyer for it is in our calendar.
14.04.09
Okay guys, sorry the last update was so brief and non-descript- I was in somewhat of a hurry. Anyhow, Battle of the Bands! 16 bands, 4 heats, 4 finalists, 1 winner. 13 of the 16 bands have no been confirmed, go to the page title BOTB for a list of the confirmed bands! It would be brilliant to see as many of you there as possible. It's no fun playing to an empty room, as I'm sure many of you will agree, so come out and show your support and see who wins. I'm off to Radar on Thursday (16/04/09) which is an all day event at the Princes Hall in Aldershot, with such wonders as Canterbury, Tonight Is Goodbye and Data.Select.Party! It looks be fantastic, hopefully get lots of pictures and the likes from that.
17.02.09
Okay, I've finally got round to updating. It's been a busy month so far! Lots of exciting things happening. We have 2 new interviews, one with Another Life and the other with the Indiependants, a band from Greece. Exciting stuff. Go check them out in the interviews section. Other than that, Red Burns Black are playing the Watershed in Wimbledon on Friday (Feb. 20th), there's a gig at the Point in Fleet this Saturday (Feb. 21st) and the Cellar Bar at SHP on Sunday (Feb. 22nd).08.01.09
Hey hey everyone, happy new year! Can't quite believe it's 2009 already- 2008 went pretty quickly. 2009 brings some challenges, there are many things in the pipeline, none of which I can tell you about as of yet, but keeps your eyes and ears peeled. Of course one of the biggest things for us this year, is of course the fact that in May, RiotZine will be 3 years old...WOW! Has been a brilliant 3 years! Met so many awesome bands and people...and still it continues! Five Aces Black are playing the Cellar Bar at South Hill Park this Sunday (Jan 11th), would be good to see some of you down there! Also Red Burns Black's album launch gig will be on Friday January 16th at the Wilde Theatre, South Hill Park. It's going to be one big party, as it's RBB's album launch, and YouBurnFirst's last ever gig, so come down and say congrats and goodbye! Click here for the event flyer!

Wow, updated the song of the week on a Sunday, it's a mircale! Let's see how long getting this up to date lasts! Right, what's been going on then? Well, went to a gig at the Boileroom yesterday afternoon and saw three incredible bands: Luna Park Rescue, Lets Talk Tactics, and Subsource. Absolutely fantastic atmosphere and some amazing songs aswell. There's a review of that up here. Pictures up in the photogallery as soon as possible. Off to another gig at the Cellar Bar in Bracknell tonight, not sure who's playing but they're usually pretty awesome bands. Not much else to say really, other than we're looking for more bands to do interviews with, so if you're in a band and would like an interview then please get in touch with us via our MySpace.
10.11.08
As you can see I've redone the site (again) and I think it looks a lot better than it did before. Just a note to you all, Subsource's new single "Dark Is The New Light" is out TODAY from most online music stores (including iTunes and HMVDigital)! Incredible band- I highly recommend you go over to their MySpace, listen to their tracks and purchase the single- worth every penny! (Only £1.79) I'm hoping to add some new content soon, but I need new content first! So if you're in a band and want an interview/review/photo shoot, please get in touch and we will see what we can do! Check us out on MySpace and let us know what you think of the new look!
18.07.08
It's been a long time since I've updated again I'm afraid, been very busy, but we're back now (for a while). There haven't been many changes, there is one new interview up with a band called Subsource, check them out. Red Burns Black played the Wilde Theatre last weekend as well, which was great. A very good live show there, I recommend you go and see them when they play a show near you. Make sure you check out the new song of the week and featured artist for this month. Also, any musicians in the Surrey Heath Area grade six or above in strings, keyboards (digital or otherwise), wood wind, percussion or brass might be interested to know that Surrey Heath Arts Council is organising a competition called Young Musician 2008 with cash prizes. See here for further details.

And we're back! Lots going on at the moment, been a busy bee hence the site looking terrible recently. Spending the whole day fixing it though! Keep your eyeballs peeled!
30.3.08
Hey ho! As you can see RiotZine looks totally different, hence the lack of updates over the last few weeks- we've been playing with the CSS trying to make it all look good and work! Hopefully it's all working now though. New interviews and photos very soon, as well as a few reviews. Keep checking back for updates. Also, we're taking part in the Surrey Heath Show this year on May 3rd 2008 at Frimley Lodge Park. We have a 20 minute slot, in which Smal is going to play an acoustic set, so please come down and check out all the cool stuff going on there! More info as and when.
20.2.08
I know, I did it again, sorry. Well what's going on with RiotZine this week? Not much at all actually, except for this Friday. Guildford Youth Centre is to play host to some amazing local punk bands, including our good friends The Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. All but one member of RiotZine shall be there (traitor =p) so if you're there, come say hi to us. We'll be the ones wearing RiotZine tees and taking pictures and/or filming stuff! But yeah, expect new pictures and possibly a video interview over the following week.
25.1.08
Hello hello! It's been a VERY long time since the site has been updated (again) so I apologise. Lots going on you see. So, just a quick update as I don't think anyone actually reads this thing. Basically we went to a gig at the West End Centre in Aldershot to see Covert, Kennelis (sp?) and Draven. We did an interview with Covert which will be on the interviews page right about...NOW! So go check that out. Due to a few technical difficulties there are 3 seperate videos (batteries in various cameras kept running out) but I assure it's worth watching them all- it's a good laugh. We have another new addition to the family, welcome to Chris who is going to be doing reviews of gigs and bands for us, so if your band would like a review then let us know. A few examples of bits he's already done are on the reviews page. As you can see we have a new song of the week, which is off Fake The Attack's BRAND NEW EP released this week I think. I've only heard a couple of songs from it on their myspace page, but they are very good, so go check them out now. That's about all for now, hopefully I will get the site updated more often. It's nearly February already- WHAT HAPPENED TO JANUARY?! :|
01.01.08
Happy New Year! Expect a lot of changes at RiotZine over the coming months. The site will be getting a whole new look and feel, we'll be adding more content, meeting new bands and working harder than ever to promote unsigned music.
24.12.07
Wow, Christmas Eve again. This last year has gone so quickly it's unreal. We started up around May 2007, no one knew who we were except the few bands I knew personally and through friends. It's amazing to see how much support we have received in just 7 months- I get recognised walking through town now! AHH! We started with the intention of promoting local bands, we were sick of the stuff we heard on the radio and saw on Scuzz and Kerrang! Within a few months we went global, bands in Afghanistan, Australia, America and Italy were befriending us. As December, and, of course, 2007, draw to a close, RiotZine is to see some big changes. As those of you with myspace will know there are 2 new members of the RiotZine family. We're pleased to welcome Rich as head of security and Wez as photographer. Not much else to say now, apart from thank you for all of your support throughout the year, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all, and we hope to see you all again in 2008, ready to take over the world! Well, maybe not that far, but you get what I'm saying. Seasons Greetings to all.
02.12.07
It was RiotZine's launch gig last night. Everything went to plan, and was an overall success. Thank you so much to every single person who came to watch, help out or play. Error 404 and their families drove for 3 hours to get to the gig, and they worked so hard, I owe them so much. There will be a proper review up soon, but for now let me just say thank you again, to all of the people who were there last night, you really were amazing. If anyone has any pictures they would like to see on the site then please send us a message over myspace telling us where we can see it and we'll use as many as we can.
17.11.07
Sorry I haven't updated in a while, lots to do and everything. Gig at Christchurch Chineham tonight, Canterbury, Look Left! Look Left! Bright White Light and Turn To Askia. Should be a good night. Gonna do an interview with Look Left! Look Left! and Canterbury, so look out for new video interviews soon. I know that I've not been updating anywhere near often enough, but I'll try and get it done more often. Something new: Normally I chose the song of the week and the band of the month. There are so many good bands and good songs out there that I can't decide which ones. So I want you to contact us via our myspace and give your suggestions as to who you want to see as band of the month and song of the week. They don't have to be bands that we already know about- We're always on the lookout for new bands to get in touch with, so if you don't think we know about a band you like, send us a link to their site :) That's all for now. New Blog on the way soon hopefully.
28.10.07
So what's been going on at RiotZine this week? Well, went to a gig last night at the Point in Fleet. Was The Nova's last ever gig, Woody and Jake put on a great acoustic set, but it'll be strange not blinding them with my flash at gigs anymore. Pictures from that will be up in the Photo Gallery soon.
In other news, make sure you have a look at Mr Riot's Blog for an insight into what's going on in the world. New dates are up in the calendar, and new interviews to come soon.
