Ugmosis

Ugmosis are a wild, perfectly attuned band with an immense amount of talent. With a range of songs varying in style, speed and aggression, they're bound to have something for almost anyone. They are currently trying to get people to help them support McFly on their upcoming UK tour, so help them out!! Anyway, this is what Antony (Guitar) had to say in answer to our questions:

When and why did you guys start playing together?

We first started playing back while we were at school. I wasn't in the band properly back then; I was manager at the time lol. Woody and Ant are the only two original members. Then Dubb came in Coz he had some drums, and I came in coz I had a keyboard - that was when me, Ant and Woody had finished year 11. We wanted a band because we wanted to be just like our idols, and hopefully make it big one day, as a group of mates. After December 2006 we were struggling a little bit, so we stuck me on the bass and we found Kim to do the vocals, and we have never looked back.

Who are your main influences and how have they affected your playing style?

Well, the main one is, of course, McFly, because they are young and managed to make it, and they write bloody good music, but influences obviously vary between the members. Woody's is Mcfly, Ant's is Mcfly and busted, Dubb's is Enter Shikari and +44 and emo stuff lol, mine is Pink Floyd and a load of old stuff that my dad listens to lol, and Kim's is Avril Lavigne and All-American Rejects. So if you put all those together, you get a mixture of pretty much everything.

If you could create your own religion, and write 3 commandments, what would the religion be called and what would you have as your 3 commandments?

Our religion would be Ugmosism And 3 commandments...
1) Thou shalt listen to all of Ugmosis and like it
2) Thou shalt eat poached eggs for breakfast
3) Thou shalt slate Dubb for being Emo and Bisexual

Where did you get the name 'Ugmosis' from?

Basically, we know this guy called Ugmo – that's his nickname, coz somebody went over to him and called him an Ugmo - nobody knows exactly what it is, but it's catchy. We also happened to be doing Osmosis in a science lesson, and when you put the two together, you get Ugmosis.

If you could perform live or record with any famous musician, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

McFly! Coz they are our biggest inspiration, and we would love to play with them, or record with them or support them.

Finish the following statements:

- You know you've made it when…Universal Island records call you and say we have accepted your material. (bout bloody time!!!)
- It'll be time to pack up the gear for good when…1 of us is in a serious accident and cannot play our instruments anymore.
- I'll never forget the first time I…blew a jonny up over my head

What is the strangest/coolest thing a fan has ever thrown at you while you were on stage?

A Borat Thong lol

What's been your favourite venue/event you have played to date, and why?

Well, the best venue was the summer breeze festival on the main stage, because it was so well done, and professional and stuff like that, but the most enjoyable was a local gig at Farnborough Town Football Club because the atmosphere was just brilliant and the support from the audience was the best so far.

Explain briefly what the song 'Time Will Tell' is about please [:

Well you have come to the right person because I am the one who wrote the lyrics lol. I can't really explain how I managed to get on the subject of it when I was writing it, I must have been really depressed at the time, but it's all about war and P.O.W camps and the attempts that the prisoners make to escape from them. If you listen to the lyrics, it will make sense.

Any final comments?

Keep up the support, if you want us to play for you, just give us a buzz - if you have song ideas of your own, then do send them in because we will look at them - unlike other bands. But overall, thanks a lot for the support so far, keep it up, and look out for new Ugmosis stuff on the MySpace. Cheers!
