The Sketch Outfit are a lively band with a distinct sound. The fast aggressive drumming works perfectly with the simple yet effective guitars, topped by voices with a raw, fierce edge. Even the very first time you see them live you can tell that they enjoy what they're doing and it is clearly what they love. You can feel the energy pulsing off them and it makes you want to jump about and dance.
When and why did you start playing together?
October 2004, because I was getting bored of my old band and wanted to try out some different things. Ben and I had played in bands before and Ollie was a good friend of ours so we tried it out and it worked.
Who are your main influences and how have they affected your playing style?
Loads of stuff from the local scene inspired us at first. I don't know about the others but the kind of stuff I listen to is braid, the redneck manifesto, trail of dead, fairweather, colour of fire, cave in, dive dive... that kind of stuff.
If you could perform live or record with any famous musician/band, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
That one is too tough.Where did you get the name 'The Sketch Outfit' from?
Ha-ha it's a description of us.
What has been your favourite venue/gig you've played to date and why?
Unit 22 in Southampton was really good. Locally it's either the Westy or the Tumbley, both have brilliant sound and they're just good fun to play.
Explain briefly what the song 'Ruckus (Super Dangerous) is about please :]
it's about having an attitude of not caring about anything, and then things going wrong.
What is the strangest/coolest thing a fan has ever thrown at you while you were on stage?
Just banter. Good banter.
Any Final Comments?
Cheers!
