Since the first time I saw The Rioteerz, they have changed alot, with a new vocalist and a fresh new sound they're taking local crowds by storm. Supporting local legends such as The Nova and Ugmosis, these guys are getting their name known, and for all the right reasons. They're going places, no doubt about it.
When and why did you guys start playing together?
Errrr its a long story really, we all go too the same school obviously, and err one break time about 6 months ago I went up to Dave and asked if he wanted to be in my band, consisting of me, and then Dave XD , then we hired a bassist, who was poor, kicked him (harsh but had to be done) then we hired Gaz (a man who was hard to find) as drummer and Lewis as bass, then we had a singer issue and Nat agreed 2 sing for us at tomlinstock, then we went on a search for a more permanent singer, and found Lacey [= So all in all it was a bit of a spur of the moment thing that we got really into and here we are today [=
Where did you get the name 'The Rioteerz' from?
Well it was the product of ALOT of trial and error, we had a lot of names over the 1st month or so, and that was the one that stuck. It wasn't the rioteerz straight away. It was some riot based stem and we developed it a bit.
If you could start your own religion and write 3 commandments, what would the religion be called and what would the commandments be?
Riotizm
Commandment #1, never stop rocking
Commandment #2, all payments must be changed to booze
Commandment #3, fuck the authorities
If you could perform live or record with any famous musician, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
Has to be Jimi Hendrix I mean he had no money what-so-ever and as a guitarist he's inspired me to do some crazy shit, I'd love to wind him up and watch him go.
There was tension between you and another band who had almost exactly the same name as you guys a while ago, is all good between you now?
lol!! Haha yeaah the rioteers yeaaah they changed their name to like exactly the same as ours, but yeah we talked it over, they changed and now everything is fine between us =] was a tense week though
Finish the following statements:
- "You know you've made it when people don't ask, are you the Rioteerz then? I was wondering who they were. And start asking for signed memorabilia."
- "It'll be time to pack up the gear for good when one of us caves into drugs, or I get into a stupidly pointless accident causing me never to be able 2 play guitar again =]
- "I'll never forget the first time I walked onstage and heard the sound and sights of the crowd in front of me'
- "I couldn't believe it when we were on stage and Lacey bought us drinks and then we got attacked by thongs"
- "When I make a million, I'm going to keep one eye on the very top, and the other on my bank account :P as well as buying a house with a room full of every type of guitar and amp I can afford =]"
- "In 3 years time, we will be headlining Wembley with thousands of screaming fans at our feet"
What are you looking forward to most right now as a band?
Recording our E.P and see what people think of our music when there's not quite so much feedback :P
What have been the most memorable gigs you've played so far - both good and bad...?
Well I don't really remember any bad experience with our gigs, we're really a gigging band we look ahead to every gig and practise our asses off =] but the best has to be in Camberley Theatre, the atmosphere was electric, the other bands were amazing, and it had smoke, lights, big amps the whole package
What do you think of the current state of UK radio and the live/local music scene?
I think the local scene is awesome tbh, amazing atmosphere wherever you go, even if the bands are s**t the crowd will scream the roof down, its really good for music. In my opinion the local bands are better than the whiney emo dribble that gets big these days, I know I'm gonna piss a lot of people off by saying that, but most of the 'rock' bands around these days [MCR, fallout boy e.c.t] are whiny mid 30's manufactured gimps who still can't stop singing about their teenage angst and grow up and get some talent.
Any final comments?
Yeah, thanks for all the support and everything, this site is an amazing support for all the bands trying to get off the ground, keep up the good work!! And sorry too all the rest of the band who didn't know I'd done this interview, you should be on msn more. And to all the little bands, keep practising, everything starts off small right?
