Last week I picked up Caz from the YPod, and the Nova bid us farewell - "bye Mr Riot" quoth Woody. Methinks he was having a little joke at my expense :-)
Sure I wouldn't be welcome at "young people's" gigs, but that doesn't mean I don't like rock music. Hell, m m mmy generation invented it!
I was there at the Empire pool in Wembley for Emerson, Lake & Palmer's "Brain Salad Surgery" tour - 50,000 people, and about 1 Watt per person. My ears are still ringing.
Recently though, my musical tastes have been changing. I still like 'Purple and Meatloaf, but I'm looking for something with a bit more kick. Caz introduced me to "Within Temptation" which is currently wearing out the CD player in the car, and I tried some "Nightwish": OK, but not my scene. Matt lent me a copy of Linkin Park's "Hybrid theory", which upset the security guards as I pulled into the office car park the other day. My goodness those boys know how to pump the bass.
Tonight I was reading my Music Tech monthly, and I came across "Dream Theatre" ...yesss, that rings my bell. So its down to Rock Box on Saturday to pick up the limited edition of Systematic Chaos. It comes with a 90 Minute DVD, so I can catch the concert on the home cinema - I'd be just plain embarrassing in a mosh pit. That will have to wait till Mrs Riot is out though - she says she'd pay not to hear it :-)
Rock Box, by the way, is a little goldmine - they stock all the cd's and vinyl you won't find at the megastore, plus some great merchandise. Well worth a visit, especially since Richard Branson has decided to sell off the Virgin Megastore brand to a management team. Its now going to be re-branded something utterly forgettable. Does anyone remember what Dixons is now called? Does anyone care? Amazon does it for me.
I'm half way through an evening course in electronic music production with Cubase - awesome! I've ripped Richard Burton's voice from "War of the Worlds" and I'm slowly nailing together a little number featuring Cubase's Virtual Studio Tools. Now I know how Dragonforce do those drum riffs. Heh heh.
Seriously though, Caz says I should do a regular column here on RiotZine, so here it begins. What to write? Well all good blogs are about life, what's good, what's bad and what's plain daft. Expect the unexpected, watch this space.
